Pedometers have come a long way in recent years. The new 3D pedometers were developed from NASA technology for use in robotic machines operated on the moon or planets then modified by the Japanese to count steps taken. This means they can be placed in any position on your person i.e. on a cord around your neck, in your pocket or in your back pack.
When used in conjunction with an appropriate diet as part of a program to increase your daily exercise, pedometers can help burn energy and play an important role in motivating people to exercise. As a rough measure, when walking, about 1250 steps should be roughly equivalent to 1km and should take about 13 minutes to cover.
